The plant-demic craze has officially crossed over to the geek world
LEGO has a ‘Botanical Collection’ that we just want right now
The plant-demic craze has officially crossed over to the geek world. LEGO will be launching a new Botanical Collection highlighting realistic plant builds early next year.
A report by Brickfinder shared official photos first shared by Polish book and toy seller Bonito, of LEGO’s upcoming Botanical Collection, a brand new theme for their 18+ line.
The delightful LEGO sets intended for adults feature some stylized plant builds including a Bonsai Tree with interchangeable leaves and an intricate Flower Bouquet perfect for tabletop floral arrangements at home.
Taking a departure from the usual mechanical-oriented and kiddie-themed building sets, the LEGO Botanical Collection features the natural world in the iconic LEGO form.
With the model 10281 Bonsai Tree, LEGO users can recreate a small tree grown in the traditional Japanese method. According to a report by Brickset, the 878 piece set is likely to retail for around $50 (roughly P2,400). Though the default leaves are green, the set comes with a whole set of alternative pink leaves, so it can be reimagined depending on the season, similar to the kiddie-set 21318 Tree House which comes with autumn leaves.
Another set in the Botanical series, 10280 Flower Bouquet, comes with 756 pieces and builds 10 different flowers covering multiple varieties. Just imagine putting these individual plastic flowers in an empty vase at home to brighten up your house. The retail price is expected to be around $50-60 (roughly P2,400-P2,900), based on the quoted retail price in Poland of 229 PLN.
These pretty plant-themed LEGO sets may just be the perfect solution for geeks who can't seem to keep real plants alive at home.
According to Brickfanatics, this is the first time that the LEGO Group has delved back into the natural world in an adult-oriented set since LEGO Ideas 21301 Birds released in 2015. The intricate 580 piece set featured three LEGO models (a Blue Jay, Hummingbird with flower, and a Robin), but was discontinued in January 2016 after just 12 months.
LEGO continues to experiment with new themes and areas that have previously not been covered by their product range. Earlier this year, the plastic brick maker announced a playful collaboration with IKEA for storage boxes to offer fun and unique storage solutions at home. The new plant-themed sets also follow several 2020 18+ releases that offered non-minifigure scale models. In a recent Instagram post, they shared a LEGO hack for fun, colorful and unique plant pots using LEGO.
With LEGO pushing heavily into the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) market, fans can only expect to see more creative models and sets of this type next year. The LEGO Botanicals Collections is expected to launch worldwide sometime January 2021.
