Netflix offering select movies and series for free
Netflix just released a selection of original movies and shows completely free to stream, including Millie Bobbie Brown’s sci-fi series Stranger Things and Sandra Bullock’s post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box.
No account or login is needed to access shows on Netflix’s dedicated “Watch Free” section.
Don’t expect to be binge watching everything for free though. For popular series, only the first episode is available for viewing, with a prompt for viewers to sign up for an account if they want to watch the rest of the episodes. Each of the titles comes with a pre-roll reel highlighting a range of Netflix original programming to entice potential subscribers.
Netflix movies available free to stream right now include Bird Box; Adam Sandler’s comedy Murder Mystery, co-starring Jennifer Aniston; DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby: Back in Business; and Oscar-nominated The Two Popes with Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins.
On the TV side, viewers can watch the pilot episodes of hit originals such as Stranger Things, reality show Love is Blind, Spanish teen TV show Elite, documentary series Our Planet, Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us, and Grace and Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin for free.
Granting limited free access to Internet users worldwide by the premier streaming network is a bid to land new paying subscribers. Similar sampling strategies have been employed by other premium pay-TV networks such as HBO and Showtime.
Netflix’s free titles may only be viewed on the web via a computer or on Android devices (Apple iOS browsers are not supported). Viewers will not be able to stream the free content on connected-TV platforms.
Netflix notes that the selection may change from time to time. Catch the select Netflix episodes and movies for free here at www.netflix.com/ph/watch-free
