‘Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut’ launches on PS5, PS4 on August 20
Sucker Punch's samurai action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima is officially getting a director's cut for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 which will feature new enhancements as well as an entirely new island that players can explore.
In a recent PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch Productions communications manager Andrew Goldfarb said that aside from the original game, the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will also include every piece of additional content they have released along with a new chapter in Jin Sakai's journey.
"If you’re a history buff, you may know that in addition to Tsushima, the neighboring island of Iki was also invaded during this time period," Goldfarb said. "In this new story, Jin travels to the island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence. But soon, he finds himself caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past."
Although other details about the game are being kept under wraps, the studio said that the new island will feature tons of new content including some new environments to explore. Apart from that, the director's cut will also include new armor for Jin as well as his trusty steed, new mini-games, techniques, enemy types, and even animals that players can pet.
"We’ve thought a lot about how to expand Jin’s story, and we’ve also spent the last year poring over all of your feedback about how we could improve the experience of playing Ghost of Tsushima. We’ve been hard at work on a brand new edition of the game, which not only includes a new chapter in Jin’s journey, but also some new updates that are a direct response to some of the community’s most-requested features," he said.
For the PlayStation 5, players can expect additional features such as lip sync for Japanese voice over, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, enhanced 3D audio, "drastically" improved load times, 4K resolution options and frame rates targeting 60 fps.
Apart from the Director's Cut, there will be also be a new patch for existing Ghost of Tsushima owners, which includes some new accessibility options for alternate controller layouts. The new update will also introduce an option that enables a target lock-on during combat and an option to hide Jin's quiver during gameplay. Additionally, the game's co-op multiplayer feature—Ghost of Tsushima: Legends—is also getting some free new updates including a brand new mode that the studio will soon announce.
Meanwhile, those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 will be able to transfer their progress to their PlayStation 5 to continue their game. For new players, however, the studio said that the new Iki Island chapter will be available in the beginning of Act 2 after players made their way to the Toyotama region.
The Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will launch on August 20 for $69.99 for PS5 and $59.99 for PS4. For those who already own the game on PS4, they can pre-order an upgrade to Director's Cut on PS4 for $19.99. Meanwhile, PS4 players who own the Director's Cut can also upgrade to PS5's version for $9.99. Alternatively, players who already own the PS4 version can directly upgrade to the Director's Cut on PS5 for $29.99.
