‘The Flash’ teaser shows Supergirl and second version of Ezra Miller’s Flash

A sneak peek video of The Flash gives fans a brief glimpse of newcomer Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and not one, but two versions of Ezra Miller’s speedster Flash.

The first look video footage for 2022’s The Flash released during the second DC FanDome global fan event Saturday (Oct. 16), teases an altered timeline in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

From director Andy Muschietti (It) and screenwriter Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl), the upcoming film will find Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen between his world and another, where a version of Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight from 1989’s Batman protects the streets of Gotham.

The Flash film will be drawing inspiration from the iconic DC Comics storyline Flashpoint written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Andy Kubert.

In the comic book arc, Barry Allen travels back in time and saves his mother, Nora Allen, which somehow creates an alternate darker timeline. He wakes up in a very different DC Universe where Superman does not exist and Aquaman’s home of Atlantis is at war with Wonder Woman’s people in Themyscira. Meanwhile in Gotham City, Bruce Wayne was murdered in front of his parents’ eyes, and his father, Thomas Wayne, became the Dark Knight instead. Barry ends up being the only person who remembers what once was, leaving him and his reality-bending speed to try and undo whatever happened.

The trailer shows the Flash traveling back to what appears to be his childhood home, the known location of Nora's murder by the hands of the Reverse Flash.

While the trailer doesn’t reveal who the film's primary antagonist will be, it does show a second version of the Flash, also portrayed by Miller, with a different costume and hairstyle.

Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are set to portray The Dark Knight from Tim Burton’s Batman films and the recent DCEU films respectively. While they aren't shown onscreen, we see someone standing in a rubber Batsuit like that worn by Keaton in 1989's Batman and 1992's Batman Returns. The teaser also shows a bloody cowl lying on the floor with Barry unveiling a dusty, covered Batmobile.

Miller, who introduced the video during the FanDome segment from the set, said that there’s still a lot of work to be done to finish the film. While it's not a full teaser or trailer, the new footage does offer an exciting new look for fans.
