Korean live-action adaptation of sci-fi horror manga 'Parasyte' coming soon on Netflix
Netflix announced that it will be producing a South Korean live-action adaptation of Parasyte: The Grey, which will be helmed by Train to Busan and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho.
The premise of Parasyte: The Grey will center on "unidentified parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts and strive to grow their power. As they start to disrupt society, a group of humans wage war against the rising evil", according to the streaming platform.
Netflix's The Swoon posted on Instagram pictures of Jeon So-nee (Encounter), Koo Kyo-hwan (Kingdom: Ashin of the North), and Lee Jung-hyun (Peninsula), who will lead the cast of the upcoming series.
Jeon will be playing a character who falls victim to one of the parasites and becomes its host. Fortunately for her, it failed to fully take over her brain, and so they then enter into a bizarre coexistence with one another.
On the other hand, Koo will portray a character who is determined to track down parasites in order to locate his missing sister while Lee will play the leader of a task force in charge of battling the invasive life-forms, who she had lost her husband to.
Parasyte: The Grey is based on the popular sci-fi horror manga Parasyte written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Like the upcoming series, the manga's premise also follows an unlikely relationship between a human and a parasite.
The manga became quite popular, having sold over 25 million copies internationally. It was previously adapted into a 24-episode anime series titled Parasyte: The Maxim, which aired between October 2014 and March 2015, as well as two live-action films.
