X to let users you've blocked see your posts

Social media platform X will soon allow users you've blocked to see your public posts.

Nima Owji, a developer who shares news on app updates and upcoming features, recently said X is about to remove the block button.

"[M]eaning that if an account is public, their posts will be visible to the blocked users as well!" Owji said.

X owner Elon Musk replied to him, saying, "High time this happened."

Musk also clarified that blocking will prevent the account from engaging with—but not seeing—the public posts.

To date, X displays a "(@handle) blocked you" with the note, "You are blocked from following (@handle) and viewing (@handle)'s Tweets."

If you've been blocked, you cannot see the other person's replies, media, followers, and following list.

The Verge reported that X is implementing the change because people can still view users who blocked them anyway when using another account or when logged out.

The publication, however, noted that upon testing, it cannot view tweets of users when it's logged out of the platform.

Musk has expressed his dislike for the block button. In June 2023, he said blocking public posts “makes no sense” and that “it needs to be deprecated in favor of a stronger form of mute.” In August of that year, he said the blocking feature would be deleted, except for direct messages.
