From bikes to cars: Angkas to introduce four-wheel service called 'Angcars'
Could this be GrabCar's newest competitor? Motorcycle taxi service provider Angkas confirmed on Thursday that it is eyeing to launch a four-wheeled service called Angcars.
In a town hall interview, Angkas CEO George Royeca said that the company is set to align on the transport network vehicle service (TNVS) segment through the app in 2024.
He added that the forthcoming app will address the commuters' demand for ride-sharing services, countering the ride-hailing pioneers Grab.
“Angcars is designed to be an advanced ride-hailing app that seamlessly blends affordability with user-friendly navigation,” Royeca said during the event.
Through the expansion, the plan outlines the comprehensive initiatives and modernization to innovate its company's service to the Filipinos.
The app, moreover, will introduce additional options like Angcars Economy and Angcars Plus, which allow passengers to choose between four-seater or six-seater, respectively, for a secure riding experience as it enters the TNVS market.
The company is also extending its business beyond the wheels as several other features namely Angkas Health and Angkas Padala service will be added to the existing motorcycle taxi app.
Angkas Health will allow users to avail of healthcare home services including blood testing done by licensed medical professionals.
Angkas Padala, meanwhile, will be introduced as an app for payment and transactional services of entrepreneurs nationwide.
Royeca vowed to offer affordable loans for bikers who wish to upgrade their motorcycle through Angkash Initiative which is co-partnered with brand giants Honda and Uno Bank.
Aside from Angcars, a potential new ride-hailing app called inDrive was accredited by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in December 2023 only to be suspended a month later for violating the established fare matrix due to its fare-haggling system.
inDrive is supposed to start operating in Metro Manila in the first quarter of this year.
