‘Squid Game’-inspired food offerings and challenges to try in Manila
Did Squid Game keep you on the edge of your seat?
The Korean show has been a hit for Netflix viewers for its action-packed adaptation of childhood games via do-or-die challenges. It's been the talk of the town since its September release, ranking first in the top shows and movies on the streaming platform in different countries like the United States and the Philippines.
If you’re one of the many people who enjoyed watching it, then you might want to experience it for yourself somehow (without the risk of getting killed, of course!). As player #1 Il-Nam said: “Doing something is always more fun than just watching.”
Below are some offerings and games in the food scene that you might enjoy with your nearest and dearest.
Honeycomb Challenge, anyone? Priced at P249, The Dessert Museum’s Dalgona Candy Kit has eight pieces of honeycomb candies decked out in the same shapes that were showcased on the series like circle, star, triangle, and umbrella. “If you do it at our store—Bakebe, located 2nd floor of SM Aura, BGC—then we actually have a punishment here,” the food brand teased in the comment section of its official page. “You can challenge your friends so it’s more fun.”
Hodai also has something exciting in store for Squid Game fans. If you reign triumphant in the same honeycomb challenge until Oct. 10, the Korean-Japanese restaurant will treat you to a Daebag Set worth P599. It comes with unlimited pork, beef, shrimp, sashimi, sushi, side dishes, and sauces.
Instead of dalgona, Mama Lou’s decided to get creative with an irresistible promo. Until Oct. 16, it will give out squink cards to random guests when they order food for dine-in, delivery, or pick-up. Chosen customers would have to call #6262 and say the password “Green Light. Red Light.” for a chance to avail of the Buy One Get One deal on its Squid Ink Risotto. Warning: the voice prompt might creep you out.
