Soju + Yakult, Cheetos, and other unexpected donut flavors to try in Manila

Published Jun 04, 2021 6:09 pm

In the donut scene, surprises are endless.

These munchies have made a glorious comeback during the current pandemic, all thanks to the (still trending) strawberry donut sandwiches. To this day, the flavor wars continue and show no signs of stopping.

A myriad of stores in Manila have birthed variants we once only dreamed of—there are donuts that perfectly lie between sweet and salty, others with fillings that are so generous, it’s impossible to get our mouths around them.

Are you a donut lover who is dying to know more? Scroll down to explore some unique delights that you should try.

Let’s start with the famous Poison Doughnuts. It’s hard to pick just one from their donut variations because the ones I’m about to mention taste really good in their own ways. There’s the dark chocolate Ruffles donut made with salted chocolate glaze, nacho cheese Doritos with chocolate coating, and Cheetos donut made with white chocolate (P120). Need I say more? Good luck picking your poison.

In the mood for some Soju, Yakult, or both? These two iconic drinks are what make BUNappetite’s newest offerings a must-try. Stuffed with some creamy filling, you can get it in Plain Yakult (P650/dozen), Soju + Yakult (P930/dozen), or get the best of both worlds for P800/dozen.

Want some zest in your donut? Try Green Bar’s calamansi basil variation, which is covered in calamansi citrus and finished off with some fresh basil for an exciting taste that's perfect for the adventurous. Bonus: It’s vegan, too!

If you’re into milk tea with lots of boba, your best bet could be these boba donuts (P180/box of four) from Bobba Donuts MNL. Each is made with a generous serving of its signature milk tea cream with boba pearls, and then torched with sugar for an exciting crisp texture on the outside.
