This hotel in Singapore is where art meets comfort
Imagine immersing yourself in over 3,400 stunning works of art, all within a luxurious setting. Believe it or not, experiencing world-class art goes beyond museum walls. It can also happen right at a hotel!
This is what Conrad Centennial Singapore boasts of—comfort at your disposal, but with an artful twist and spectacular views.
Conrad Centennial Singapore is one of the two “sibling” Conrad hotels in Singapore. Located downtown at Suntec City, the hotel offers an accessible retreat from your full-day itinerary—be it for a business trip, vacation, or even just a quick staycation.
It was my first time visiting Singapore, and let's just say this hotel exceeded my expectations.
A welcoming vibe
At the driveway of the hotel, the first thing guests would notice is a colorful art piece called “Harmony” by renowned American sculptor Richard Sparling.
Then more art, which is an infusion of modern art and Asian culture, welcomes guests inside the hotel. The whole vibe gives off a light and bright feeling, perhaps because feng shui was one of the main focuses when the hotel was designed, as shared by Sean Soh, Conrad’s Cluster Assistant Marketing Communications Manager.
Right in the lobby, all the five main elements of feng shui are represented—the pillars and the floor represent the first element, earth; the bamboo trees represent wood; the ceiling which looks like a golden ripple of water stands for both the water and metal elements; and the centerpiece of the lobby, a sculpture called the “Turbulence” by Rafael Barrios, stand for the fire element. Together, these parts of the lobby create what I find to be an attractive harmonious energy. Their lobby itself is a perfect spot to relax or unwind from a tiring day of shopping or exploring Singapore’s business and entertainment districts which are all nearby.
The hotel offers 512 guestrooms and suites, four premium dining and drinks venues, various event halls with a special glass-encased pavilion, a fitness center, a spa, and a rooftop pool.
Among the thousands of art pieces, a notable creation that I really appreciated is by the award-winning Singaporean artist Tan Chin Chin. “Kites” is a four-piece series hung on the walls of Conrad Centennial Singapore’s 2nd floor and is made of traditional fabric and textiles pieced together. The artwork represents the mix of cultures in Singapore, with the materials coming from the four main ethnic groups in the Republic. Soh shares that the art piece reflects the country as well as the hotel itself, as they receive guests who come from diverse cultures and places.
As you can imagine, the hotel is not just a typical place of respite, but also may serve as inspiration and a tickle for creativity for art lovers.
Resting place with a view
But art lover or not, you can still enjoy your rest in Conrad Centennial Singapore, because not only can you get comfortable in their rooms or amenities, but your eyes may also feast on the views.
Their rooms may have two views: one of the Suntec City, featuring the beautiful Fountain of Wealth in its center and the other is of the Marina Bay area. From here, you could see the National Stadium where concerts of famous artists are held, the Merlion Park, the Singapore River, and more.
As you can expect, though, rooms with such spectacular views come at a price. Their rates per night are not cheap starting at around S$470 up to nearly S$3,000. I guess Conrad Centennial Singapore can charge a premium because yes, the view from the rooms is beautiful, but also because of its accessibility.
Located at 1 Cuscaden Road Singapore, it is a walking distance from the Marina Bay Sands complex, but I loved that it is only a 5-minute walk to the Promenade MRT Station.
Access to your need
Conrad Centennial Singapore boasts of its accessibility, but it also provides its own services for the various needs of the guests.
For those needing private rooms for discussions or closed-door meetings, the Executive Lounge offers a selection of rooms, still with amazing views. Some guests may also opt to have their breakfast there.
Guests with an active lifestyle but are packed with a busy itinerary in the city, their 24-hour fitness center is there; or should you prefer to make laps in the pool, their 20-meter rooftop pool is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. And for those craving a relaxing time, the Conrad Spa may be accessed from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A wide selection of ballrooms, salons, and meeting halls are also available in the hotel. But in my visit, I was enchanted by their Glass Encased Pavilion Ballroom which was just by the pool at the rooftop. It is commonly used for weddings, especially those held in the evening because it has a stunning skyline view.
Besides the Executive Lounge, the hotel also serves food at the Golden Peony, a fancy Chinese restaurant, and the Oscar’s, where most guests enjoy the breakfast buffet in their semi-open kitchen, featuring global cuisine, with a focus on Singapore’s local specialties. Meanwhile, their Lobby Lounge serves afternoon tea (with a 38-tea selection!) and some cocktails. For al fresco lovers, The Terrace, also found at the lobby level, is famous for its 26-selection premium gins.
The services at Conrad Centennial Singapore may indeed come at a price, but after my visit, I fully understand why. It’s reasonable, considering how accessible and beautiful it is. The fact that it is about 3 decades old is not even obvious—I guess the contemporary art that surrounds the hotel helps with that.
Take it from me—I had a packed schedule during my trip to Singapore. I left the hotel 30 minutes after the concert gates opened, but I still had more than two hours to kill before the show started. If that’s not accessible to you, I don’t know what is.
