Queen Elizabeth II’s 'royal pancake' recipe resurfaced online—here’s how you can make it

Weeks after her death, Queen Elizabeth II’s pancake recipe has resurfaced online, which she initially shared with President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1960 through a letter.

According to Food Network, the late queen “served the pancakes (which are actually called “drop scones”) to Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie, when they visited the queen at her castle in Balmoral.”

“Seeing a picture of you in today’s newspaper, standing in front of a barbecue grilling quail, reminded me that I had never sent you the recipe of the drop scones which I promised you at Balmoral. I hope you will find them successful,” she wrote in her letter.

She also added some tips on how to make the royal pancakes, such as tossing in less flour and milk but sticking to the rest of the measurements, ingredients, and instructions included in the recipe.

Curious about the taste of “drop scones”? Food Network said that while they are “a bit thicker and smaller in size, these griddle cakes are just as sweet and delicious for breakfast (or a special tea-time treat).”

You can finish off these royal pancakes with the usual toppings like syrup, whipped cream, or butter—or get creative to your heart’s content.
