Bulldog puppy saves his owner's leg by 'chewing his toe to the bone' during nap
Looks like this naughty pup is a good boy, too!
64-year-old retired builder David Lindsay was taking a refreshing nap on a normal day—until he suddenly woke up from his wife's scream, seeing his toe covered in blood after being nibbled hard by their seven-month-old bulldog named Harley.
“I was asleep on the couch when my wife walked in and shouted, 'Dave, the puppy's chewing your toe!” the father of 5 children and a grandfather of 11 told Wales Online. "My puppy had near enough chewed my big toe off.”
Lindsay, who also suffers from diabetes explains how Harley possibly saved his leg. Explaining that due to his “naughty behavior,” he discovers his foot completely numb, which explains how he didn’t wake up despite his puppy chewing his toe to the bone.
"It chewed down to the bone and cracked it. But because of all this, I discovered that my foot is completely numb, I can't feel anything."
Fractured, Lindsay was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered that he has two blocked arteries as shown on his CT scan, which puts his whole leg at risk for amputation due to the lack of blood supply.
With the incident, Lindsay is now being assessed for stents—a small mesh tube “which would open up the arteries and allow the blood flow to return to his leg.” He is also given intravenous antibiotics to stop the infection caused by the dog bite from spreading.
After the pup saved his life, Lindsay said he has no plans of getting rid of it. He expressed his excitement to be home with his wife and to play with Harley after spending over a week in the hospital.
"I'm waiting to find out if they can put stents in. I'll be keeping the dog. I'll try to keep my toe too, but if not, I told the doctor to cut it off and I can take it home for him!” he said.
“You've got to laugh about it. He's done me a favor by chewing my toe.”
