United Airlines to offer direct flights from San Francisco to Manila starting Oct. 29

United Airlines is set to expand its service in Asia later this year and become the first US airline to offer direct flights to Manila.

According to Travel + Leisure, the new route will take off from San Francisco to Manila starting Oct. 29 and will be operated daily using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, the largest one in its fleet.

Patrick Quayle, the senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said in a statement that it will offer "more flights to more destinations" across the Pacific. 

"United is the flag carrier of the U.S. and we are excited to bring this new service to Manila while expanding access to Hong Kong, Taipei, and Tokyo," he said. 

At present, the airline company has routes from Guam and Palau to Manila.

United will fly to 15 different international destinations across the Pacific with its additional flights, including the resumption of daily nonstop trips to and from Los Angeles and Narita International Airport in Tokyo starting Oct. 28. The latter will go with its current service between Los Angeles and Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

The firm will also add flights to Australia and New Zealand in the same month as part of its "largest-ever South Pacific expansion."

Services between San Francisco and Taipei as well as Los Angeles and Hong Kong will likewise increase.

According to Travel+Leisure, United has been focused on making the airline company bigger by expanding its services for months now. Just recently, it began operating its "largest-ever schedule across the Atlantic" with flights to 114 international cities.
