So kyot, so smol: Meet Pearl, the world's shortest living dog
There's a dog that's no taller than your average tumbler, remote control, or stiletto. A pearl among dog breeds all over the world.
She's named Pearl, a furbaby so "kyot" and "smol" who's officially the world's shortest living dog.
Pearl is a chihuahua born on Sept. 1, 2020 in the United States.
According to Guinness World Records, she measures 9.14 cm (3.59 in) in height, shorter than a popsicle stick. In terms of length, she measures 12.7cm (5 in), about the size of a dollar bill.
Pearl weighs 553g (1.22lb).
She's a relative of the previous record holder, Miracle Milly, who passed away in 2020 before she was born.
“We’re blessed to have her,” said Vanesa Semler, Pearl’s owner who lives in Florida. “And to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share with the world this amazing news.”
Semler described Pearl as “small like a ball."
Pearl is also a "bit of a diva," Semler said. She enjoys chicken and salmon—and loves "dressing up nice."
Though she's already two years old, the pocket-sized Pearl is still "a child at heart," according to Semler.
The shortest dog ever recorded was a dwarf Yorkshire terrier that's about the size of a fist.
The dog, owned by former Our Dogs newspaper editor Arthur Marples, stood at 7.11cm (2.8in) in height and measured 9.5 cm (3.75in) from the tip of its nose to the tip of its tail. It died in 1945 just before its second birthday, Guinness World Records said.
