GALLERY: The newly renovated Manila Zoo features new installations including a dancing fountain and a bigger enclosure for Mali
The Manila Zoo just got an upgrade.
In a series of tweets, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno gave Filipinos a glimpse of the newly renovated attraction, which received a P1.7-billion budget for its rehabilitation that started in 2019.
Looking a lot more bright and vivid than before, the place now features new installations such as a dancing fountain and a butterfly garden souvenir shop. There’s also a new well-lit entrance with animal statues to welcome its visitors.
Mali—the zoo’s lone elephant who is now 49 years old—now has a bigger room, including spaces for bath and play. Mali has been in the Manila Zoo for 40 years.

Early this month, Moreno shared that he’s interested in teaming up with the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park to have more animals at the Manila Zoo. “Their animals are welcome in Manila. We are willing to receive some donations,” he said in a statement.
Manila Zoo, which has been around for 60 years, is set to reopen to the public on Feb. 2022. The management is planning a system that would allow visitors to book a slot ahead of their visit to reduce the risk of infection in the establishment.
