Summer Hotspots: PH’s most beautiful rivers (for non-beach lovers)

Itching to have a summer escape but not a big fan of beaches? The Philippines is rife with numerous natural and man-made wonders so there is no shortage of good spots where you can have a good time.

If you’re the type of traveler who appreciates nature, then these river destinations are perfect for your summer. 

1. Loboc River, Bohol

A trip to Bohol wouldn’t be complete without taking a tour of the Loboc River in Visayas. Found in the heart of Bohol, this river’s charm lies in its expansive width and the lush flora surrounding it.

Tourists often explore it while riding a floating restaurant where they can enjoy some traditional cuisines the place is known for. Some tours even include a quick stop at patches of land where several musicians croon guests with their melodious hymns. Other times, there are children singing on a balsa where your boat parks alongside it.

 2. Hinatuan Enchanted River, Surigao del Sur

While the Philippines is known for its world-class beaches, our country doesn’t have a shortage of other enchanting bodies of water. Hinatuan Enchanted River is a perfect example, with its clear waters that come in different shades of blue.

Some level of care needs to be practiced when swimming in this river, however, because its exact depth is not exactly known. One activity you shouldn’t miss out on, however, is watching the feeding of the schools of fish that live here which happens at 12 noon every day.

3. Davao River, Davao

Want to have a more adventure-type of river experience? The Davao River, the main natural reservoir of the city, is perfect for white water rafting that you can enjoy with a crowd. You can also appreciate the more calm waters of this 143-kilometer long body of water once you’re done with your adrenaline-pumping activity.

4. Panguil River, Laguna

Panguil River Eco-park is so beautiful that it received funding from the World Bank for its preservation. Besides appreciating the enchanting waters flowing through rock bodies, visitors can also relax and chill at the surrounding riverside cottages framing the place. The 20-meter hanging bridge found in this spot is also perfect for a good photo-taking session.

5. Puerto Princesa Underground River, Palawan

A list of the country’s best rivers won’t be complete without this underground destination. The Puerto Princesa Underground River is considered a World Heritage site and is named as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. A trip here offers close encounters to the wonderful underground structures found in the 24-kilometer long St. Paul Underground Cave.
