Grab Philippines is testing a 'Quiet' mode for those who don't want to chat with drivers during their ride

Not a fan of small talk with drivers when you're using a ride-sharing service? Or maybe you're not in the mood for chit-chat after a long day? Grab Philippines is currently testing out a new feature that will let the driver know you want a conversation-free ride.

This feature, called Quiet Mode, will limit the communication between you and the driver to booking-related conversations like preferred routes and stopovers.

To unlock this ride option, just book a GrabCar like usual, then, users will be prompted with a message asking if they want a conversation-free ride after they have found a driver.

Users have the option to reply "Quiet" to the prompt or ignore it altogether if they don't have a preference.

Grab began beta testing Quiet Mode on April 4 to help driver-partners understand the different preferences of passengers. The trial period is tentatively scheduled to last until June.

Feedback from passengers will ultimately determine if the ride-sharing service will permanently add the feature to the app.

In the US, Uber offers a similar feature so passengers don't have to make small talk but they have to pay extra as it's only available for premium rides. Lyft also takes into account their passengers' preferences, allowing them to give the driver a heads up if they want a ride with no music and minimal conversation.
