This is your sign to order chicken inasal and sisig.
According to online food guide Taste Atlas, Inasal na Manok and Sisig are among the World's Best Traditional Food of 2022, grabbing the 35 and 62 spots, respectively.
The chicken inasal rated 4.63 stars, tying with Portugal's Frango assado piri piri, Italy's Linguine allo scoglio, France's Steak au poivre, and Greece's Gyros. It is a popular dish from Bacolod that is "marinated in a mixture of vinegar and numerous spices such as lemongrass, garlic, and ginger."
Taste Atlas users have recommended Aida's Manokan and Nena's Beth at Manokan (both in Bacolod), Island Chicken Inasal in Boracay, and Balay Dako in Tagaytay as best places to go for chicken inasal.
The sisig, meanwhile, which is a popular pulutan dish, got 4.54 stars. It ties with six other dishes. This popular pulutan dish from Pampanga is made of different parts of pig's head such as ears, cheeks, and jowls, seasoned with salt, pepper, vinegar, and sometimes mayonnaise.
According to Taste Atlas, sisig "was used as an early remedy for nausea and hangovers, because its sour flavor was considered a vomit suppressant, and that is why today sisig is almost always paired with an ice-cold beer on the side."
Aling Lucing's Sisig, Mila's Tokwa't Baboy (both in Pampanga), and Locavore in Pasig are the recommended restaurants with good sisig.
Both Filipino dishes rank above Bosnia's Cevapi (4.53), Mexico's Pozole (4.53), Poland's Kotlet schabowy (4.53), and Japan's Gyudon (4.53). While Italy's Porchetta (4.48), Peru's Arroz chaufa (4.48), Cyprus' Sheftalia (4.48), Greece's Kalamari tiganita (4.47), Serbia's Pljeskavica (4.47), and China's Shiumai (4.47) placed last.
Meanwhile, the Philippines placed 23 in Taste Atlas' World's Best Cusines of 2022.
