'The Conjuring' house has been sold for a whopping $1.5 million or P80M
Would you dare live in a haunted house and, even more so, spend a fortune for it?
For Jacqueline Nuñez, owner of real estate developer WonderGroup, the answer is a clear yes.
Nuñez just purchased the haunted farmhouse that inspired the 2013 horror movie The Conjuring for a whopping $1.525 million or approximately P80 million.
Dubbed "The Conjuring House," the property is located at 1677 Round Top Road in Burville, Rhode Island, and was built in 1736. This Cape Cod-style crib spans 3,100 square feet and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, not to mention the presence of supernatural beings.
The house's booking website states that it is considered one of the United States' national treasures, as it withstood The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, and the unbridled growth of the Industrial Age in America.
It wasn't the house where the film was made, but it was the same world-famous home the Perron family moved into on Jan. 11, 1971, and encountered extreme paranormal activities until they moved out in June 1980.
According to a report by Forbes, Andrea Perron was 12 years old when their family started living in the house. "I always got along with the spirits right from the start,” she said. "I had moments of fear because I saw what was happening to my mom and to my family."
Prior to Nuñez's purchase, the Conjuring House was owned by Cory Heinzen and his wife Jen. The couple began renting out the house to paranormal investigators in June 2020, amid the pandemic.
Rebecca Galentine, who was one of the house's overnight dwellers, told the portal that she, too, witnessed eerie incidents during her stay. She said that this included doors closing and a talking board used for communicating with spirits moving on its own.
"I had to close all of the doors because I was afraid," she recalled. "I kept getting nauseous and lightheaded. I felt an overwhelming sense of ‘I’ve been here before.'"
Heinzen added that other visitors reported apparitions, bursts of light in rooms, and voices picked up in recordings, among other phenomena.
Nuñez bought the house for a price 27% higher than the original asking price of $1.2 million (P62.8 million). It is the most expensive home sold in Burrillville, Rhode Island, according to the Rhode Island Statewide Multiple Listing Service.
In an interview with Boston Globe on May 27, Nuñez revealed buying the haunted house for her belief in the paranormal. “I loved The Conjuring even before I knew I was going to buy it,” said Nuñez.
"Every morning I like to see what’s trending on Google," she continued. "And I saw the ‘Conjuring House’ was for sale. I’m like ‘Oh, my God, I have to check this out!'"
The businesswoman contacted the listing agent and went into a bidding war against other bidders. She said one buyer even offered as much as $2 million (P105 million).
However, it was Nuñez's intention to continue the Heinzens' rental business that closed the deal. "I’ll be making an offer, and I intend to continue the business that you have established,'" Nuñez recalled telling the agent. "That turned out to be pivotal for them."
