Man divorces wife for serving him instant noodles three times a day

A man in India filed for divorce from his wife after he got fed up getting served Maggi instant noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

According to presiding judge ML Raghunath, the husband complained that his wife had no idea how to cook any other food except the instant noodles, which were served to him daily. He added that his wife would only buy more instant noodles whenever she'd go grocery shopping.

The incident, dubbed the "Maggi case," saw the couple ultimately divorcing on mutual consent.

Raghunath later told the New Indian Express that divorce rates in India have been increasing.

"Couples have to stay together for at least a year before seeking divorce. If there was no such law, there would be divorce petitions filed directly from wedding halls,” he said.

Courts have received divorce cases a day after their marriage for different reasons like for not talking with the partner, putting salt on the wrong side of the plate, not getting the color of the suit right, etc.

In March, a drunk man in Hyderabad called the police five times to complain about his wife for not cooking mutton for him, according to New Delhi Television.

Divorce petitions are more common in urban areas than in rural parts of the country, Raghunath added.

"In rural areas, village panchayats intervene and settle the problems. Women have no independence and their fear of society and family sentiments force them to cope with the situation. But in cities, women are educated and financially independent," he said.
