Creatives of Manila, 5969 is your new go-to spot in Poblacion
To all the Doc Martens-wearing, tattoo-loving frequenters of Cubao Expo, Escolta, and Art Fair PH, there’s a new hangout spot in the Metro just for you!
Located in the bustling heart of Poblacion, is a new hip and happening creative hub called 5969—a three-floor haven for all things art, media, and everything in between.
Named after their address at 5969 Fermina Street, the eccentric space prides itself as a home for creativity in all its forms and mediums. More than just a space you can look around and buy a few knick-knacks or two, patrons can wine and dine, take a workshop, get a tattoo, and cap off the night by sleeping over at their bed and breakfast.
11.11 Tattoos and Curiosities
Starting with the first floor is 11.11 Tattoos and Curiosities, a specialty tattoo studio that brings local artistry to the skin. And, true to their name, their minimalist tattoos start at P1,111.
The tattoo parlor is akin to getting inked by a friend (in the safest way possible!). The artists are very casual and friendly as they easily guide first-timers while the general atmosphere is cozy and quaint as you can play your own music and be given blankets. They even plan to serve tea in the future!
As for the tattoo designs, they are, first and foremost, artist-centric. “We’re going to collaborate each month with a featured Filipino artist for the flash designs. And then eventually, we plan to guest tattoo artists from different provinces,” shares Managing Partner Mikhail Guingon.
Surrounding the ink experience are shelves of crafts, trinkets, and general anik-anik. Intending to spotlight local creators and brands, 11.11’s shelves are open to sellers of unique artwork, limited edition merchandise, and independent labels who want a space to showcase their work.

Modular Studios
Coming up to the second floor is Modular Studios. Known as a creative space, Modular Studios is a blank canvas for any creative projects such as photoshoots, workshops, live art showcases, and open jam nights. It can even be transformed into one of the most aesthetically pleasing karaoke places you can find.
“I’m a content creator, so I always struggle to find studio space that’s affordable, and I’m able to do anything I want. That’s what we want to do,” says Mark Mendoza, Managing Partner at 5969.
But, the heart of Modular Studios is music. In the next room is their space for their DJ 101 workshops, a one-day class where you can learn how to “spin” alongside others.
“It’s a one-day workshop for four hours which is kind of like the entry point to our advanced classes. We’ll have Hip-Hop, House, and Open-Format, which is a combination of hip-hop and house. And then eventually, for future plans, we want to invite local artists and local DJs to discuss the community and culture,” explains Managing Partner Bryan Jalasco.
Dim Dim
On the next door over and through a hidden door, is Dim Dim, a Filipino-Chinese speakeasy for those who want to speak easily over good food and unique drinks at a place that's not too crowded.
Similar to the array of concept bars in Poblacion, Dim Dim is your Fil-Chi childhood reimagined. From the number of cats swarming the place to childhood-inspired drinks, Dim Dim is an ode to childhood hobbies and sensibilities. Bringing it back to the speakeasy concept, the bar is surrounded by ways to bring people together to socialize—from ice-breaker games to hosting Thursday trivia nights and end-of-the-month house parties.
With a growing menu of fusion dishes curated by Chef Jose Mari Inigo and specialty drinks curated by Mixologist Royce Pua, the menu is anything but basic. I mean, where else can you find drinks inspired by Haw Haw Milk Candy and Pei Pa Koa, after all?
A few favorites off the menu are their Mala Chicken which is described as the perfect drinking partner as it gives a numbing sensation to your tongue, and their Chun Li Spritz, a crowd-favorite cocktail that “kicks you in the face like a motherf*cker.”
The Kin House
Finally, at the top-most floor of 5969 is The Kin House, a “stay in art” boutique hotel where art and comfort come together. If you’ve ever struggled to find a nearby Airbnb, hostel, or hotel within walking distance of the Poblacion night scene that’s safe, clean, and IG-worthy, The Kin House is your best bet.
Currently, this accommodation hosts three spacious rooms with breathtaking wall designs from local artists such as JP Pining and DeafEye Studio and enough space to walk freely without accidentally bumping into your bedside. Each room has a queen-sized bed, a wide-screen projector, a coffee machine, a mini-refrigerator, an air purifier, and the staple hotel amenities on top of closet space and a mini-dining area.
