Indian newlyweds sign 'contract' allowing only 'one pizza a month'

In tying the knot with somebody, one has to be 101% sure on what they signed up for. This much is true for a couple in India—in the literal sense—as they inked a "contract" stating they must only have "one pizza a month" for the rest of their married life.

Bride Shanti Prasad, 24, and groom Mintu Rai, 25, just exchanged vows at a traditional ceremony in Guwahati in the northeastern state of Assam last June. They met in college five years ago, starting as friends whose romance eventually blossomed in time.

According to a report from BBC, Shanti and Mintu spent their first date in a pizza joint, as she is "very fond" of the dish. Succeeding dates almost always end in pizza time, to the point that he's complaining about it to their friends.

It has since become an inside joke among Shanti and Mintu's group, which drafted a "contract" (which is obviously nonbinding) to make their wedding "unique" and "memorable." And the first order of business? Cut down on their pizza intake.

The "contract" signed by Shanti and Mintu during their wedding.

"Her love for pizza is second only to her love for Mintu," BBC quoted a friend of theirs as saying. "I think she thinks about pizza in her free time and even in sleep."

The deal is also "requiring" Shanti to go the gym daily and wear a sari every day, as Mintu says she "looks very beautiful" in it.

Mintu, however, also has to "comply" with a few do's and don'ts. He must cook breakfast on Sundays and take Shanti to shopping after every 15 days. He's also not allowed to go to late-night parties without her, and he must take a "good picture" every party.

Local wedding photography studio Wedlock Photography shared a video of the contract signing on Instagram, which has since garnered over 47.3 million views, 2.2 million likes, and 10,700 comments.

But alas, as they say it time and again, rules are meant to be broken. Shanti told BBC that two weeks since their wedding, they've already had pizza "twice."
