Two children were found lifeless inside an abandoned car in Barangay San Matias, Santo Tomas, Pampanga.

Speaking to Teleradyo Serbisyo, Pampanga Police PIO P/Lt.Col. Jaime Edejer said that the bodies were reported to them at around 3 p.m. on July 8. The victims were aged five and six years old.

According to Edejer, the victims' parents have been living separately from each other for a long time now, with the mother having last seen them on July 6.

The children's mother eventually got worried when a concerned citizen reported a foul smell coming from the car where the bodies were found.

After investigation, authorities found that the car had already been abandoned for two years and was being repaired by a mechanic who was also situated within the barangay where the tragic incident took place.

"May mga sira na 'yung mechanical parts niya, so kapag pumasok ka sa loob ng sasakyan ay 'yung mechanism ng pinto is sira na, so walang paraan na lumabas 'yung mga bata," Edejer said.

Given the evidence, authorities suspect that the children had possibly entered the car and were trapped inside until they died. However, Edejer stressed that the investigation is still ongoing.

The bodies are now set to undergo autopsy to determine the cause of their deaths.
