Noli de Castro leaves ABS-CBN to run for the Senate in 2022 elections
News anchor Noli de Castro announced that he'll be exiting ABS-CBN to make his political comeback in the 2022 elections.
"Ako po ay makikipagsapalaran sa bagong uri ng ng public service," he said during his Kabayan morning program at DZMM on Oct. 7. "Ang pagkakataong ito ay mas magiging malawak ang magagawa kong public service kung seswertehin sa tulong narin po ninyo."
The veteran broadcaster did not say what position he'll be running for, but ABS-CBN reported that de Castro is gunning for a Senate seat after his 11-year break from politics.
This will be his second time running for senator—he received the most votes of any senator during the 2001 election but did not finish his six-year term as he was elected vice president in 2004.
In his three-year senatorial stint, de Castro authored 252 bills and resolutions, including the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2002, the Balikbayan Law of 2002, the Quarantine Act, and the Newborn Screening Test Act of 2001.
