Alvin Elchico moves on from 'TV Patrol Weekend' to join weeknight news
Veteran journalist Alvin Elchico is set to join the daily TV Patrol broadcast, marking the end of his 13-year tenure as a newscaster on TV Patrol Weekend.
His appointment comes after the departure of longtime anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz, who bid farewell to TV Patrol to pursue new opportunities abroad.
Elchico, the longest-serving anchor of TV Patrol Weekend since 2011, made his final appearance on the show on Sept. 1. He will officially join the TV Patrol anchor team—Karen Davila, Noli de Castro, and Bernadette Sembrano—beginning Monday, Sept. 2.
On X, weather forecaster Ariel Roxas welcomed him to the broadcasting show. "See you sa @TVPatrol main, @alvinelchico DASURV," he wrote.
Elchico started as a news anchor and field reporter for TV Patrol Bacolod from 1996 to 2000. He was transferred to Manila in 2000 to become a news writer at DZMM and eventually became a newsbreak anchor and field reporter.
He currently co-anchors AM radio Gising Pilipinas on DWPM, TeleRadyo Serbisyo, and TeleRadyo Serbisyo Balita alongside Doris Bigornia.
Elchico's most notable achievement was his exclusive coverage of the Oakwood Premier building during the historic Oakwood mutiny in July 2003.
Meanwhile, Omaga-Diaz, who has over three decades of service at ABS-CBN, has anchored multiple news programs, including Hoy Gising! and TV Patrol Weekend, and covered significant events both locally and internationally.
