Customer finds live venomous scorpion inside her parcel

Be extra careful next time you open a package as you might get a nasty surprise—just like what happened to a buyer who found a live, venomous scorpion in her parcel.

According to a report by BBC, Sofia Alonso-Mossinger from the UK was expecting a pair of boots from fast-fashion firm Shein when she saw the stinging creature lurking inside.

"I thought it was a toy, and then it moved," Alonso-Mossinger said.

While she was fortunate enough not to get any stings, she still described the experience as "pretty scary."

"I unzipped the outer packaging and saw something move and was like, 'What's this?'" she recalled. "I thought I was dreaming. I feel like I am all right with spiders and things but it was scary being in my room with a random scorpion."

@bbcnews Bristol Uni student Sofia said she and her housemates were "not exactly buzzing" to have a scorpion in their flat. She then sought the help of her flatmates at the University of Bristol about what to do with the venomous insect. They initially wanted to kill it, but decided that it wasn't the right thing to do.

Instead, they moved the scorpion into a tub before it was collected by an expert from the National Center for Reptile Welfare (NCRW).

Chris Newman, who works for the center, identified the insect as one belonging to the Olivierus martensii species or a Chinese scorpion.

When a person is stung by the creature, the venom would be "medically significant... potentially life-threatening, but an average adult would just have a really bad day," he said. "It is quite worrying this is the second one we have had in under a month that has come in this way."

Shein has since gotten wind of Alonso-Mossinger experience and issued an apology for what happened.

"After receiving the feedback, we immediately conducted an internal investigation," the retail company said.

"Our teams on the ground have checked the shipment packing process and carried out an inspection of the goods in our warehouse and have confirmed that all standard operating processes have been adhered to," they added.
