A Chinese man has been maintaining simultaneous relationships with five women, all residing in the same housing complex and are unaware of each other's existence.

According to a South China Morning Post, the man, identified by the pseudonym Xiaojun, had been keeping the secret arrangement for over four years before he was eventually busted by one of his lovers.

The report detailed that Xiaojun "came from a financially disadvantaged background and had dropped out of secondary school." However, he managed to charm his wife, Xiaojia, into marrying him by adopting a "rich second-generation" persona and gifting her counterfeit luxury items.

He also told her that his parents were successful businesspeople when in truth, his mother was a bathhouse attendant and his father worked at construction sites.

After registering their marriage following her pregnancy, Xiaojia soon discovered that her husband wasn't the rich man he claimed to be. Instead of divorcing him, however, she simply kicked him out of their home and decided to raise their child as a single mother.

It only took a week for Xiaojun to trick another woman, named Xiaohong, into having a relationship with him after meeting her through an online game.

Xiaohong then lent him 140,000 yuan (P1 million) after being told that he would be spending it to renovate their future home. But instead, Xiaojun used it to maintain his rich persona.

Once his new lover became pregnant, Xiaojun rented a flat in the same building as his estranged wife.

Despite this, he continued to get away with his schemes and started relationships with university students Xiaomin and Xiaoxin, and nurse Xiaolan, who all lived in the same residential complex. He managed to deceive them into giving him 15,000 yuan (P122,972), 10,000 yuan (P81,981), and 8,000 (P65,585) yuan, respectively.

Things started to fall apart for him when Xiaoxin asked him to repay the money she lent him so she could settle her tuition fees.

The man met with her in a rented luxury car and gave her a bag that he claimed contained 100,000 yuan (P819,817), but instructed her not to open it as it was for "important business."

But Xiaoxin decided to open it after being continuously ignored by Xiaojun and discovered that the bag contained practice cash used by bank staff to count banknotes.

Xiaojun was apprehended by authorities after he was reported by Xiaoxin. Afterward, police called his ex-wife and Xiaohong, who only then learned that they were sharing the same man.

Xiaojun is now facing punishment of nine years and six months in prison as well as a fine of 120,000 yuan (P983,781) for fraud, bigamy, and theft.
