Katarina Rodriguez shares a vital reminder during calamities: Don't donate dirty clothes to typhoon victims
Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez is sending out an important reminder to those donating to Typhoon Odette survivors: double-check what you're giving to those in need.
The beauty queen and Siargao resident took to Instagram Stories to share a few photos of dirty and used clothes being given to Siargao natives, and even shared that others donated used underwear.
She first reposted a photo from fellow Siargao citizen Ru Mac, wherein donated clothes can be seen with holes in them.
"Don't donate clothes you won't even wear," Mac captioned. "Hindi naman dahil walang wala na sila ay deserve na nila ang basura ng mga tao. Sorry pero yung ibang mga nakuha namin na donation sobrang dumi at butas butas."
Rodriguez then shared her own take on the dilemma, calling out the dirty underwear that they found during donation drives.
"If it's not wearable (essential) clothes don't send it," the new mom wrote. "Please donate appropriate clothing!!"
Rodriguez has been living in Siargao since early the start of the pandemic and has since been calling it her second home. She has been vocal in helping the island amid the onslaught of Typhoon Odette in late December.
"I really love it [here]. If I didn't have to go back to Manila for work, I wouldn't go back talaga," the 28-year-old shared with PEP.ph back in December of 2020.
"I would really stay here. Siyempre naman, I love the beach."
She also welcomed her first son with Siargao-based businessman Niño Barbers in November of 2021.
