South Korea YouTuber arrested after fatal stabbing of rival YouTuber on livestream
A YouTuber from South Korea was arrested after stabbing a rival YouTuber during a live stream.
Korea JoongAng Daily, citing the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, reported that a “man in his 40s” was stabbed in front of Busan District Court on May 9 at 9:52 a.m., with the attacker immediately fleeing the scene in a car.
The victim, who’s in his 50s, was found in a state of cardiac arrest and was immediately brought to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead afterward.
The YouTubers, who upload content about their daily lives, reportedly knew each other and had been in a legal dispute. They insulted and physically assaulted each other over the past three years.
A hearing regarding an assault involving the two was set at around 11 a.m. on the day of the attack. Before the hearing, the deceased YouTuber went on a livestream to discuss the legal steps he’s taking against his rival YouTuber.
But the rival YouTuber stabbed him from across the courthouse, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.
The police think the crime was premeditated, as the suspect allegedly bought the 30- to 35-cm sharp weapon in a Busan supermarket the day before. He also rented the car he used to escape beforehand.
The suspect is now under custody while the investigation is ongoing.
