Philippines to experience longest day and shortest night this June 21

The month of June holds a very special phenomenon as it is during this time that the Philippines will experience its longest day and shortest night.

This exciting astronomical event, called June solstice or summer solstice, is set to happen on June 21, according to the The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

This will happen at 10:58 pm, when the sun reaches "its most northerly point in the sky."

"During the June Solstice, the northern hemisphere will experience the longest day and will mark the first day of summer," the weather bureau explained in its astronomical diary.

"Subsequently, it will also mark the first day of winter in the southern hemisphere, wherein the sun will have a shorter time staying above the horizon than any other day of the year," it added.

Aside from this, another astrological event that you can look forward to is witnessing the June Bootid Meteor Shower, which will be active from June 22 to July at 9 pm, but will be at its peak on June 27 at around 7 pm.

"Meteor showers are observable through the naked eye, and no special equipment such as telescopes or binoculars is needed. Maximize the viewing experience by choosing a dark observation site away from the city lights under clear and moonless sky conditions," PAGASA said.
