Interpol warns Philippine government about concert ticket scams in Singapore
The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) warned the Philippine government about scams involving the sale of tickets for concerts in Singapore this 2024.
According to the "Purple Notice" that Interpol shared with The Philippine STAR, potential victims would “come across secondary listings of concert tickets for sale through online platforms such as Telegram, X, Facebook, Carousell, and Xiaohongshu."
Next, the scammers would continue their transactions with the would-be victims through messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and WeChat.
“Victims would then be instructed to make payments for the tickets via bank transfer or gift cards (i.e., iTunes cards),” Interpol added.
Scammers would either not deliver the tickets or send tickets that are “not genuine," which victims would learn upon entering the concert venue.
Several concerts will be held in Singapore in the fourth quarter of 2024.
These include shows from Olivia Rodrigo and Big Time Rush in October; Dua Lipa, Ne-Yo, Day6, and Imagine Dragons in November; and Charlie Puth in December.
Interpol reminded the Philippine government to inform Filipinos about the prevalence of ticket scams.
The organization urged concertgoers to buy tickets from authorized ticketing agents and avoid third-party sellers.
It also asked the public to use secure payment methods and avoid advance payment and direct bank transfer. (with reports from Ghio Ong)
