LOOK: This is how Metro Manila’s active COVID-19 cases look like today

Who would not be alarmed?

In the last 14 days, the National Capital Region logged at least 25,000 new COVID-19 cases, with a total of over 200,000 to date. We know it is bad when the numbers are rising, but how do thousands and hundreds of thousands of cases really look like?

The University of the Philippines Resilience Institute’s EndCOV map gives us an alarming visual of what these increasing figures look like in barangays, cities, and municipalities.

The website allows users to see the density of active cases in cities and barangays, not just in Metro Manila, but also across the Philippines.

In the map, one dot is equivalent to one active case, and they are randomly plotted per barangay. For example, in the current map, the dark red dots represent the areas where the highest densities of active cases are. The COVID-19 active cases data comes from the local government units.

The map also gives one an option to look at active cases per 100,000 population (nationwide and Metro Manila) and current cases (provincial and municipal), whose data comes from the Department of Health.

Aside from figures, the map is also a helpful resource for information on quarantine checkpoints, COVID-19 testing centers (complete with information, contact number, accreditation, etc.) and health facilities (COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 hospitals, referral centers and quarantine facilities).

The site has details of the cases in the Philippines (age, gender, case number and status), information on health facilities like hospitals (with address, type of hospital and phone number) and Department of Health quarantine facilities (with isolation bed rate and bed ward rate).
