Metro Manila shortens curfew to four hours starting June 15
Mayors of the National Capital Region (NCR) have agreed to shorten the curfew from six to four hours. Starting June 15, curfew is from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m., according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Metro Manila has been under a six-hour curfew since May 1, when it was put under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ); General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions from May 15 to 31; and GCQ with restrictions from June 1 to 15.
MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said in a meeting Sunday with Metro Manila mayors that they all agreed to adjust the curfew hours from the previous 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
“Minabuti nila na luwagan ang curfew (at) adjust na ng 12 nang gabi. Ito ay magsisimula sa June 15,” Abalos said in his interview with PTV-4’s Laging Handa.
Abalos added that that the easing of curfew hours is based on improving COVID-19 daily infection and two-week average rates, and hospital bed occupancy rate in the metropolis. He also said that this adjustment will help to further reopen the economy.
“This will give more time sa mga taong kakain sa restaurants, sa mga malls na magbukas, sa travel time, at siguro makatulong na nang husto sa ating ekonomiya,” he said.
Metro Manila’s current general community quarantine (GCQ) with restrictions classification will expire tomorrow, June 15.
