IN PHOTOS: Tropical Storm Paeng batters different parts of the Philippines
The Philippines is braving the wrath of yet another severe tropical storm named "Paeng."
While it hasn't reached the typhoon category, the storm has brought heavy rains to many parts of the country, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration to place some areas under Signal No. 3 on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Various rural areas on Mindanao island have been hit strongly by the storm, causing families to be affected by waist-deep floods and landslides and resulting in a number of deaths and injuries, according to the Philippines' civil defense director Rafaelito Alejandro.
Many organizations and social media users have posted online about how Tropical Storm Paeng has affected them.
On Facebook, Aklan Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center posted pictures of their staff braving the murky waters in order to save the homeless dogs in their facility. They are now seeking financial assistance from kind-hearted individuals as many of their dog kennels got damaged.
"Thank you Lord God for giving us strength and courage to save all our dogs during the heavy flood due to Paeng. But sadly, a lot in our dog kennels and things for our dogs got damage. We are really really seeking for you help guys," the animal rescue center wrote.
The heavy rains also spawned floods in the villages of Zamboanga City, as seen in a post by Philippine Social Conservative Movement. The waters reached shoulder-length and have even devastated their local flea market.
"Our brothers and sisters from Zamboanga are asking for our assistance to help alleviate the effects of Paeng on their area. We will be organizing a relief goods giving activity there through one of our officers in Zamboanga. A little help will be greatly appreciated," the group wrote.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Panganiban in Catanduanes also gave an update about their situation. The office said that they are now assessing the damage done by the storm and clearing the roads from fallen trees.
A beach resort located in the province of Southern Leyte was also razed by the tropical storm, as seen in a series of pictures posted by Hollins Beach Resort. According to them, their beach had already been a victim of Typhoon Odette in the past, and now the cycle has once again repeated with Paeng.
Government officials have begun assisting the affected families. Personnel from the Miagao Municipal Police Station, together with different advocacy support groups, are currently giving food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to the barangays affected by Tropical Storm Paeng.
Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard are also taking action to help those in need in the barangays of Sigma, Capiz.
