Francis Magalona's 'Bagsakan' polo to be auctioned off for Parokya ni Edgar's Gab Chee Kee
The polo shirt of the late OPM icon Francis Magalona will be auctioned off for the medical expenses of Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee, who's battling lymphoma.
Magalona used the polo, a school uniform with a name plate bearing his full name and his "three stars and a sun" logo, in the music video of Bagsakan, his collaboration with Parokya ni Edgar and Gloc-9 in 2005.
"Tingnan nyo kung ano yung nahanap namin," Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda wrote in a Facebook post.
Miranda noted how he wasn't expecting to locate the polo after all this time, and only tried his chances by messaging Magalona's daughter Saab.
"After a few days, she sent me this photo...nahanap nila yung polo," he said, adding that Magalona's wife Pia agreed to auction off the polo.
Parokya ni Edgar has yet to announce details regarding the auction.
Just last Feb. 20, Miranda's very own Bagsakan polo sold for P150,000 in an auction. Parokya ni Edgar's puppets "Mr. Suave" and "Chito Matsing," used in the cover of their 2005 studio album Halina sa Parokya, meanwhile sold for P85,000.
Last Feb. 15, a custom electric guitar signed by the Eraserheads, which Parokya ni Edgar considers as a musical influence, sold for P1.4 million.
Miranda announced Chee Kee's health condition last January, saying the latter has lymphoma and has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past few months. At the time, he's recuperating in an intensive care unit and had been intubated for over a week.
Lymphoma is cancer that begins in infection-fighting cells of the immune system called lymphocytes, according to WebMD. When somebody has lymphoma, their lymphocytes change and grow out of control.
Since then, the band as well as other industry colleagues have have held fundraisers and benefit concerts for Chee Kee on top of different auctions.
Last Feb. 22, Parokya ni Edgar's official Facebook page announced that Chee Kee was moved from the ICU to a regular room to continue his recovery from pneumonia and its complications.
"Pwede na rin siya humawak ng cellphone at nababasa niya ang mga comments, kaya wag kayo magulat kung biglang mag-reply siya sa inyo!" the band's post read.
