LTFRB recommends suspension of jeepney driver's license after body-shaming passenger
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) recommended the suspension of the license of the jeepney driver who went viral for body-shaming a female passenger.
“The Board hereby recommends to the Land Transportation Office that the driver’s license of Mr. Arneto Palisan, be suspended in accordance with RA 4136,” the LTFRB wrote in a Facebook post, citing its order dated June 25.
The board said it would also impose a P15,000 fine on the driver and the jeepney operator "for employing a discourteous driver, for failure to convey passengers, and for the driver’s and conductor’s unwanted comments on the passenger’s physical appearance."
“The act of the driver and his conductor is not only abominable but has no place in a civilized society," the LTFRB said.
"The degradation and humiliation suffered by the complainant coupled with the brazen admission and unapologetic behavior of the driver and his conductor deserved scant penalty from this office," it added.
The passenger, 29, filed a complaint against the driver and his conductor after allegedly demanding she get out of the vehicle due to her weight. She was also allegedly asked to pay twice the fare.
The driver also allegedly blamed her for having a flat tire.
The LTFRB noted that it was a "gross violation of the Safe Spaces Act."
