Woman marries cat to circumvent landlord's no-pet policy
In crime drama television series Better Call Saul, Kim Wexler married Jimmy McGill or Saul Goodman so that they cannot testify against each other in court.
In real life in London, a woman married her pet cat to circumvent her landlord's no-pet policy.
Deborah Hodge, 49, tied the knot with India, 5 (or 36 in human years), after having had enough of abandoning three pets, huskies Siri and Starshine and cat Jamal, in past rentals under the threat of eviction.
“By marrying India, I need any future landlords to know that we come as a package," Deborah said in an interview with New York Post.
"We cannot be separated under any circumstances as she is as important to me as the children," the cat-wife added, referring to her two human kids.
Mr. and Mrs. Hodge got married in a civil ceremony on April 19 in tuxedo-style outfits. India, in fact, has always been dressed for the occasion, as he's a bicolor or tuxedo cat.
Deborah stressed out that she hasn't gone "mad," as India is so "important" to her as "part of the family."
While she may have found a loophole in her residence's rules, she's still at risk of facing eviction for a more pressing reason: unemployment.
“I’m on my last pennies,” said Deborah, who lost her job last March. “I can barely leave my house with anxiety over what the future holds and I’m just desperate not to lose my cat.”
But hey, congratulations to the couple's purr-fect marriage and till debt do them part.
