Seiko releases limited edition watch to help save Philippine eagle, Sierra Madre
As climate change is rearing its ugly head more than ever, time is of the essence for mankind to help save the environment, the endangered species, and ultimately, each other.
In doing its part to raise awareness on such timely issues, watch brand Seiko has launched limited edition timepieces on Oct. 26—in collaboration with two organizations protecting the Philippine eagle and Sierra Madre.
In a release, Seiko said its Philippine Limited Edition Prospex, inspired by the national bird, is built for the outdoors, proving to be a true tribute to the versatility and strength the Philippine eagle exudes.
Specifications posted on the brand's website include:
- Case Material – stainless steel
- Crystal/Glass Material – sapphire crystal
- Band Material – stainless steel
- Clasp Type – three-fold clasp with secure lock
- Movement – automatic with manual winding capacity
- Duration – approximately 70 hours
- Water Resistance – 200 meters (660 feet) diver's
- Caliber – 6R35
- Accuracy – +25 to -15 seconds per day
With only 1,000 pieces available, the Philippine Limited Edition Prospex has a special packaging in red and a box with an eagle head etched in gold.
The watch costs P45,000. Part of its sales will go to the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Seiko noted. In particular, the brand said it adopted a rescue Philippine eagle in Davao and named it Eiko, which means “flourishing or prosperous child."
Prospective buyers would also help protect the eagles' habitat in Sierra Madre. With the help of EcoMatcher, a tree will also be planted in the region per purchase. Through the EcoMatcher app, one may track their tree's progress—as well as information about its species, exact location where it was planted, and details about its care, among others.
This year's Philippine eagle-inspired Prospex is the third in the series, beginning with the Tubbataha Reefs-inspired unit in 2020, and the Philippine sunrise-inspired one in 2021.
