Harnaaz Sandhu responds to those who say she won Miss Universe because of her ‘pretty face’
Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu responded to people who said that she only won the title because of her "pretty face."
Sandhu, who brought back the crown to India after 21 years, shared with Mid-Day that there was a lot of effort that went into joining the prestigious pageant, and even compared it to the Olympics.
Harnaaz said: “There are a lot of people who say [I] won because [I] have a pretty face. But I know the amount of effort that went behind it."
She added that instead of arguing, she would rather "work hard" to show her bashers her worth.
"This is the stereotype that I want to break. This [win] is a lot like an Olympic [win]. When we appreciate a sports-person who represents the country, why can’t we [appreciate] beauty pageant winners? However, mindsets are changing, and I am happy to be breaking stereotypes already,” she added.
But its not only in the beauty pageant scene that Sandhu wants to "break stereotypes," she also wants to do it in the entertainment industry as well.
“I don’t want to be a normal actress. I want to be one of those who are very influential, and who break stereotypes by choosing strong characters, being wise, and inspirational,” she added.
The 21-year-old beauty queen has already starred in a few films including the Punjabi film Yaara Diyan Poo Baran. Currently, she has a movie in the pipleine, and two more that are to be produced by Upasana Singh.
