PAMPI celebrates 35 years of growth toward food security

By Cecile Baltasar Published Aug 08, 2024 12:30 pm

With the Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc. (PAMPI) helping the government advocate for food security, the organization has its work cut out for it. However, because PAMPI has been at the forefront of the meat processing industry in the country for the past 35 years, it is ready to serve.

Since it was founded in 1989, PAMPI has been the organization of record for the industry that keeps meat lovers in the country fed and satisfied. The group is composed mainly of manufacturers of processed meats and suppliers from allied industries. Today, PAMPI lists over 100 companies as members. All these are directly involved in food manufacturing, packaging, cold chain logistics, and infrastructure.

A deeper advocacy

One of PAMPI’s main purposes is to provide consumers with a safe, stable, consistent, and affordable supply of quality products. The organization carries out this mission by ramping up on research and technology.

This strategy brings a twofold benefit to the market: it ensures that products manufactured by member companies meet the needs of consumers while adhering to international standards in manufacturing, food safety, and marketing.

Beyond this, PAMPI is a staunch advocate of consumer education. The organization regularly gives its customers accurate information on food issues. By doing this, consumers are assured of the credibility of its members’ products.

PAMPI going strong at 35

From Aug. 7 to 9, PAMPI is inducting its new set of officers and directors at Shangri-La Boracay. During the same period, PAMPI celebrates its 35th anniversary.

As they are being inducted during an event that runs on the theme “Achieving milestones through growth and collaboration,” PAMPI’s new (and some returning) officers and directors will take it upon themselves to grow the organization to new heights.

Leading the 2024-2025 PAMPI officers and directors is returning president Felix Tiukinhoy, Jr. of Virginia Food, Inc. He is also supported by re-elected officers Jerome Ong of Foodsphere, Inc. (vice president), Precious Chua-Yu of Velfram Foods Corporation (secretary and the committee chairperson for membership), and Butch Prieto of RFM Corporation (treasurer). Rounding off the officers is Richard Sengson of Pampanga's Best, Inc. as public relations officer (PRO) and this year’s committee chairperson for regional membership.

Supporting PAMPI’s new set of officers are its directors: Edwin Africa of Century Pacific Food, Inc., Violy Lapid of R.L. Foods Corporation, Marie Aguila of PL Aguila Manufacturing, Inc. (who will also be serving as the committee chairperson for corporate social responsibility), Edwin Africa of Century Pacific Food, Inc., Violeta Lapid of R.L. Foods Corporation, and Cynthia Villanueva of Max's Group, Inc.

Six consultants will be tackling the different aspects of PAMPI’s operations: Sammy Señoren for government policies and regulations, Dr. Manny Rocha for DA affairs, Rex Agarrado for technical matters, Fay Bernardo for industry affairs, Jet Ambalada for foreign affairs and special concerns, Chito Vinas for legislative affairs.

Running the entire anniversary event is Chiqui Diy, head of secretariat.

As always, PAMPI is a committed partner of the Philippine Government in promoting economic growth and ensuring food security for all Filipinos.
