Chinese influencer who reportedly spent 150,000 yuan (P1.2M) a day and flexed her wealth on TikTok receives backlash
It seems that Chinese netizens have had enough of social media personalities flexing their lavish lifestyles online.
Influencer Wang Xuancheng, or Wang Chengcheng, has caught the ire of her followers and had her account banned after posting a video flexing her personal helicopter on TikTok, or Douyin as it's called in China.
Per South China Morning Post, the 31-year-old has long been posting her extravagant lifestyle online, showing off her 400-square-meter mansion and a Rolls-Royce.
She also shared that she spends over 150,000 yuan, or P1.2M in a single day.
While posting about riches is nothing new for influencers, Xuancheng's posts about her father being a high-ranking police official have also raised eyebrows accusing her of using state funds for her personal use.
Xuancheng has since denied the claims, stating that she is an entrepreneur with her own cashflow:
“I have my own cars, property and business. I haven’t asked for a penny from my family since I was 22,” she shared via Douyin shortly before her account was suspended. She reportedly owns a milk tea and energy technology business, although they are no longer operating.
Shenyang authorities have also clarified that Xuancheng's father is only a low-ranking member of the force, contrary to her claims.
Meanwhile, this latest crackdown is just one example of the state and its netizens growing tired online personalities flaunting their wealth.
In 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a “national rejuvenation", strictly discouraging “vulgar internet celebrities” from showcasing lavish lifestyles to promote their traditional Chinese culture.
