WATCH: Disney+'s new 'Percy Jackson' trailer shows Camp Half-Blood, Olympus, the Fury, the Minotaur
The trailer for the Disney+ series adaptation of the fantasy novel series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is out.
The minute-and-a-half video opens with the titular Percy, a demigod, introducing himself in a voice-over as he observes the statue of a Greek god.
"Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that," he says, noting "bad grades" and "bullies" in school.
The scene cuts to Percy getting attacked by the winged creature Fury.
The trailer also features scenes from Camp Half-Blood, the demigods' training grounds, and Olympus, the home of the Greek gods. It will also show snippets of Percy's adventures with friends, fellow demigod Annabeth Chase and satyr Grover, as well as him battling the bull-like Minotaur.
The novel series, written by Rick Riordan, has two film adaptations—Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters in 2013—based on the first two books of the novel series. It starred Logan Lerman as Percy.
The Disney+ series' eight-episode, first season is based on The Lightning Thief. Riordan serves as the series executive producer and co-writer of the pilot episode.
According to the logline, Percy is just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. He, Annabeth, and Grover must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
It will premiere on Dec. 20.
