On Reddit, Karmina Constantino tells users to stand for truth, her love for Sharon Cuneta, BTS, and pineapples on pizza

Redditors were quick to ask Constantino about her job as a journalist.

As to whether journalists should take a stance on political issues, she said they "should always stand for the truth and defend the same, political or otherwise."

In the age of disinformation, she said the media's role and responsibility is to "push back by seeking the truth always and retelling the same."

In a similar question about the proliferation of disinformation, Constantino lamented: "Napabayaan kasi. Hindi na protektahan ang katotohanan. Masakit, nakakalungkot pero hindi dito nagatatapos ang kwento ng bayan natin."

"Kailangan lumaban," she wrote. "Kailangan pagnilayan nang husto kung bakit tayo narito sa sitwasyong ito at kailangan bigyan ng karampatang aksyon para matigil na ang kahibangang ito."

She also acknowledged that being part of the press entails several challenges, like writing and "synthesizing one's thoughts to tell a story."

Another user also asked for her advice for those who wish to enter journalism and "are hesitant to practice or enter journalism due to the current political climate in the Philippines and proliferation of fake news."

"The more you shouldn't be hesitant. We need to multiply our ranks," said Constantino.

Last March 1, Constantino grilled presidential candidate Jose Montemayor about his assertion in the CNN Philippines's debates that rival Isko Moreno Domagoso received "$15 million" from Bill Gates, despite being fact-checked as false already.

Montemayor doubled down on his claim, telling Constantino that she should've known better if she would "just research, especially if you're in the media." He even alleged that Domagoso "paid" her network.

But Constantino took exception, saying, "I'm sorry, I'm not going to let that pass. Doctor Montemayor we are not in the business of getting paid. I am personally insulted by that insinuation."

"We can go on with this interview, we can leave this topic aside and move on," she continued, "but let me tell you, this is not an insinuation that I will take lightly."

"This company is not in the business of getting paid. This journalist has never been—or ever will be—paid by anyone to ask or not to ask questions," she added.

"What kind of leader will you be if you believe in fake news?"

Days after her Montemayor interview, Constantino quizzed Cavite 7th District Rep. Boying Remulla, who alleged that the Cavite sortie of presidential aspirant Leni Robredo has paid attendees and communist group members.

A record 47,000 individuals reportedly went to General Trias Sports Park to support Robredo last March 4.

Constantino asked Remulla for proof, but said that it's not necessary, as he "knows" Cavite all too well, noting that he was its governor once.

“Alam ko ang galawan ng tao sa amin. Kaya taken at face value, I do not have reason to lie," he told ANC in a March 7 interview.

Constantino, underscoring that Remulla is a "political veteran" who has been through so many elections in the past, made it a point to ask him, “Gawain niyo rin ho ba ito, ang manghakot at magbayad?”

Clips of Constantion's previous interviews have also resurfaced recently, including one in July 2021 where he took to task former palace spokesman Salvador Panelo in July 2021 for including the name of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz in a "matrix" of people reportedly seeking to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.

Constantino's interests

Beyond her media practice, Constantino also took on lifestyle questions during the AMA session.

One user sought her take on whether pizzas should have the much-debated pineapple chunks. Her short but sweet and stark reply: "YES!!!!!"

As to whether she's Team Sinigang or Team Adobo, Constantino said she belongs to the latter, and even specified her preference: "adobo with ensaladang mangga and garlic rice plus egg."

In another question about her favorite food, Constantino said Korean, Japanese, and Italian cuisine "are always welcomed by my tummy."

But her quick fix, especially when "super tired" from work, is "Wendy's fried chicken with their macaroni salad and their ketchup. With extra jello, please."

As for her music preferences, Constantino said she's "so into BTS right now." She also bared that Francis M's music is something that she "really" likes.

When a Redditor asked her favorite local and international singers, Constantino has this particular answer: "Sharon Cuneta and BTS. Sharon Cuneta and Brendon Urie. Sharon Cuneta and Jackson Wang."

She reiterated her love for Cuneta when asked about her favorite movies: "The Sound of Music and all Sharon Cuneta films. Proud Sharonian here!"

Sought for her book recommendations, she said "anything" by Chilean-American author Isabel Allende who won Chile's National Prize for Literature, which is akin to the Philippines's National Artist award. She added that "of course, books by my lolo," pertaining to the late historian Renato Constantino.

As for a specific title, Constantino suggested the 2021 novel The House on Calle Sombra: A Parable by media colleague Marga Ortigas.

She also took the time to answer the million dollar question, "Kaano-ano nyo po si Yeng," referring to singer Yeng Constantino: "hindi ko po alam =)"
