PSA: CAVITEX to offer free toll for 30 days starting June 21
Good news, motorists! The Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) will be toll-free for a 30-day period starting on Friday, June 21 at 6:00 p.m.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. welcomed the announcement made by its operator Philippine Reclamation Authority as he led the inauguration of the CAVITEX C5 Link Sucat Interchange. It could help Filipinos "take advantage of the expressways and experience firsthand the ease and convenience they bring to travelling," according to the Presidential Communications Office.
The offer applies to all types of vehicles that will access the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway in Taguig, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Bacoor, and Kawit.
"This will introduce our new roads, expressways to those who are in need of that transport system," Marcos said. "So, we welcome this call and thank the PRA for its initiative to help mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs to our motorists. I now count on our Toll Regulatory Board to ensure the immediate implementation, for the benefit of the riding and the transport public."
Apart from the inauguration of the Sucat Interchange, they also celebrated the groundbreaking of the CALAX-CAVITEX Link and Cavitex C5 Link Segment 3B in Parañaque City. Also spotted at the event were Senators Cynthia Villar and Mark Villar, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Metro Pacific Investments chair Manny Pangilinan, former DPWH secretary and now Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation President and CEO Rogelio Singson, and Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez.
The PCO said that the Sucat Interchange is set to put forward a smooth and shorter travel time from CAVITEX R1 to Sucat, Parañaque in just five minutes, marking a significant change from the usual one-hour ride through public roads from Kawit, Cavite. It aims to benefit around 23,000 vehicles on a regular basis.
The CAVITEX C5 Link Expressway Segment 3B, meanwhile, aims to shorten travel time from the CAVITEX R1 Expressway Section to SLEX/C5 Road from 40 minutes to just 10 minutes upon its completion. It will be a two-kilometer road from Sucat Interchange to E. Rodriguez in C5 Road, Taguig City.
According to Marcos, the 1.2-kilometer length of the CAVITEX-CALAX Link originating from Kawit "may be short, but its impact will be substantial." He said that the establishment of a direct connection to CALAX could help ease traffic congestion at the Tirona Highway and Centennial Road intersection.
