'The Rock' trends as 2020 Presidential Debate 'moderator'

Published Sep 30, 2020 5:20 am

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson recently trended on social media, with netizens rooting for him to moderate the next US Presidential Debates.

Early today, US President Donald Trump and former vice president Joe Biden have faced off in Cleveland, Ohio for the first of three presidential debates. During the 90-minute event, the candidates shared their views on topics such as the US election, candidates' records, coronavirus pandemic, health care, race, and more—and let's just say it was chaos.

President Trump kept interrupting his opponent to the extent where Biden had to say, "Will you shut up, man? This is so unpresidential," with moderator Chris Wallace adding, "You're debating him not me.... I am the moderator of this debate, I would like you to let me ask my question and then you can answer."

Viewers turned sour online, saying Wallace failed to control the debate, and that it could be better off as a wrestling match — with no less than The Rock moderating the event.

One Twitter user said, "pro wrestling promo is way more interesting. @Triple H vs @TheRock in WWE debate is far more professional."

Another said, "Democracy meets wrestling...... we need @TheRock in this debate with some eyebrow action and a smack down."

But why The Rock? It must be because of his recent announcement about endorsing US Presidential candidate Joe Biden and Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris — it's the entertainer's first time to ever promote a public a presidential candidate, apparently.

“This is something that I’ve certainly not done in the past, so I’m gonna go big," Johnson earlier said. “I do feel that Vice President Biden and Senator Harris are the best choice to lead our country, and I am endorsing them to become President and Vice President of our United States.”

The second presidential debate will happen on Thursday, Oct. 15, 9:00 PM EST, and the third and final presidential debate will be on Thursday, Oct. 22, 9:00 PM EST. There will also be a vice-presidential debate happening on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 9:00 PM EST.
