Here's a wickedly apt idea for the coming Ghost Month: Take a walking tour of the Walled City of Intramuros in the dead of the night.

After halting operations amid the pandemic, Intramuros After Dark: Night Walking Tours and Beyond is opening its doors for people to take a historical tour of Intramuros and see the sights from a totally different point of view.

Serving as one of the country's oldest districts where the Spanish government ruled amid its 333-year colonialization, the Walled City holds a rich history that not many Filipinos might know.

Thus, the Walking Tours serve as an interactive exploration of the country's history, along with a few possible spooky ghost stories along the way.

The tour begins at 5 PM at Escolta's First United Building, where you can window shop for local art or even grab a beer for extra thrills.

From there, historian Butch Pedalino will take attendees on a night tour exploring the Intramuros streets with stories from Old Manila and the pre-colonial and Spanish era of the country. Groups will also explore famous destinations in the areas such as the Calle Escolta and Jones Bridge.

Other highlights and stories include:

  • Stories from the Sylianteng Museum
  • The First United Building and the Regina
  • Calle Escolta
  • The Jones Bridge and the Puentes
  • Stories from WW II
  • The Ghosts of Manila Post Office
  • The Massacre at Arrocerros
  • The Metropolitan Theatre
  • Stories from the Manila City Hall Clock Tower
  • The Grand Ciudad Murada (Stories and sites inside the Walled City of Intramuros)

After the tour that ends at 9 PM, attendees can then dine in many of Intramuros and Binondo's open restaurants to pagpag, as the tour also sends out prayers after each activity.

Intramuros After Dark: Night Walking Tours is happening every Saturday and Sunday for a limited discounted rate of P850 per head. Message the Intramuros After Dark Facebook page for further inquiries.
