No UPCAT for academic year 2021-2022 due to pandemic
The University of the Philippines (UP) has announced that the University Councils (UCs) of the eight constituent universities (CUs) of the UP System have unanimously decided that there will be no UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) for academic Year 2021-2022.
A modified freshmen admissions system for 2021-2022 will be announced by February 2021.
“The University Councils are vested with the power to ‘fix the requirements for admission to any college or unit, graduation and grant of honors subject to minimum system-wide requirements,” the university said in its website. “For this reason, proposed changes in the University’s admission policy must be approved by the University Council of each UP constituent university, which consists of the chancellor as chairperson and all faculty members holding the rank of assistant professor and higher as members.”
Last year a total of 140,593 students applied for UPCAT; 90,408 took the exams. Thirteen percent or 11,821 were qualified for admission.
Due to COVID-19, University Councils across the UP System unanimously decided not to hold the UPCAT for admission of students in AY 2021-22. Instead, the UP Office of Admissions is currently modifying the admissions system for the next intake year.

UP is often cited as the Philippines' top university. It has produced seven Philippine Presidents, 13 Chief Justices, and 40 National Artists have been affiliated with the university.
UP has four main campuses—UP Diliman, UP Manila, UP Los Baños, UP Visayas—and was founded in 1909 with Manila being the oldest university in the UP System.
United Kingdom-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranks it as the country's No. 1 university, among the top 100 Asian universities, and among the top 400 universities worldwide in annual university rankings.
Ateneo and UST have also cancelled their entrance examinations.
