New York City is hiring a rat czar with a P9 million yearly salary

How would you rate your rat-catching skills on a scale of one to 10? New York City is raging a war against rodents and they are looking for a new rat czar with a salary ranging from $120,000 to $170,000 yearly (P6 million to P9 million).

The city's mayor Eric Adams posted the job listing this week, which has the official job title of "director of rodent mitigation."

According to the Washington Post, New York City's Sanitation Department has seen a 71% increase in rat sightings since October 2020. There have also been over 21,000 rat complaints in 2022, a sharp increase from previous years.

These native rodents have been known to harass pets, attack pigeons, snatch food, and cause diseases such as leptospirosis.

"There's NOTHING I hate more than rats," Adams tweeted on Dec. 1. "If you have the drive, determination, and killer instinct to fight New York City's relentless rat population—then your dream job awaits."

According to the listing, applicants must be a New York City resident, have a bachelor's degree in public policy or related field designs, and five to eight years of professional experience in policy, urban planning, project management, operations, or government.

Interestingly, one of the qualifications listed also includes having a "swashbuckling attitude, crafty humor, and general aura of badassery."

Of course, the next rat czar must not be squeamish as they will be expected to use "hands-on techniques to exterminate rodents with authority and efficiency."
