Who needs flowers? Filipinos want money for Valentine's Day—survey

What do Filipinos want to receive for Valentine's Day? Money came out as the top gift Pinoys want to receive during the romantic holiday, according to a survey.

On Feb. 11, the Social Weather Station (SWS) released a survey about what Filipinos want to get during Valentine's Day, interviewing 1,200 individuals aged 18 and above nationwide.

16% of Filipinos named money as their preferred gift for Heart's Day, followed by love and companionship (11%), flowers (10%), apparel (9%), and any gift from the heart (5%).

For the survey, interviewees were asked to name one gift they would want to receive from their loved one for Valentine's Day.

Other gifts that made the list include mobile phones (5%), watch and jewelry (5%), good family relationship (5%), food and grocery items (3%), chocolates (3%), health of loved ones (3%), motorcycles and other vehicles (2%), and appliances (2%).

Others also named non-material gifts such as greetings, a kiss, a child, date or dinner, and a wedding.

In terms of gender, 19% of women said they wanted money and 12% of men said they wanted cash. 14% of men said they wanted apparel.

Filipinos were also asked to describe their love lives, with 58% of them saying they are "very happy," while 23% said they "could be happier," and 19% said they don't have a love life.

The said survey was conducted from December 8 to 11, 2023 with a ±2.8% margin of error.
