PUVs to operate at 50% capacity during ECQ, says DOTr
Public utility vehicles are allowed to operate at 50% capacity during the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said during a media briefing on Sunday, March 28.
These PUVs include buses, jeepneys, UV Express Service, taxis, shuttle services, and transport network vehicle services.
However, provincial buses are allowed entry to borders as long as they only authorized persons or essential workers as travelers and they operate on the basis of a point-to-point trip.
According to DOTr Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Steve Pastor, PUVs must continue to enforce its one-seat apart protocol for passengers.
Pastor added drivers of PUVs will have to face corresponding sanctions if they violate the current one-seat apart rule and if they operate beyond the allowed 50% percent capacity.
Non-motorized transport vehicles such as bicycles are also allowed, as long as they strictly abide by the physical distancing measures imposed by the Department of Health.
Pillion riding for motorized vehicles is allowed, but for authorized personnel only.
